FOCUS-1

FOCUS-1 is the first smart meter valve specifically developed for the process industry 4.0. This multifunctional smart flow control instrument – developed by FOCUS-ON, a SAMSON and KROHNE company – combines sensors, actuator and control functionality in one device. By measuring flow, pressure and temperature simultaneously and regulating its valve function independently, all specified set points for control tasks such as pressure, flow or even external control variables can be accurately and reliably achieved. This makes FOCUS-1 the ideal smart control unit for processes that need to be controlled autonomously. It is equally suitable for greenfield projects as well as a drop-in replacement of conventional valves in existing brownfield applications.

FOCUS-1 provides extensive diagnostics. In addition to many device diagnostics, the module features “smart cavitation control” which enables it to identify, monitor and alarm different kinds of cavitation caused in a pipeline. This allows operators to carry out predictive maintenance measures, allowing them to avoid increased stress and wear of valve and piping ahead of time as well as to prevent unplanned downtime. Given its redundant flow measurement, FOCUS-1 can also detect possible wear of the valve seat and thus leaks.

Due to its advanced algorithms, the smart meter valve can also create a “digital twin”. This allows modelling the measured data in such a way that device function and operation can be maintained even in the event of a sensor failure. With the help of the digital twin, plant operators implement redundancy and thus permanently increase the reliability, safety and availability of their plant.

The combination of sensors, valve and controller with extensive diagnostic features translates into less engineering effort, reduced sourcing and installation costs, a more simple and compact measuring set-up as well as more efficient life cycle management and maintenance. This simplifies processes, reduces system complexity and sustainably reduces capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expense (OPEX).

MICRO-SET MSD2

The MICRO-SET MSD2 prover sphere detector is a mechanically activated position sensor for signalling the passage of a meter prover sphere.

The MICRO-SET MSD2 prover sphere detector is a mechanically activated position sensor for signalling the passage of a meter prover sphere. The unit is bolted to the prover loop pipe by means of a mounting boss, this allows the MICRO-SET MSD2 plunger to protrude through the pipe wall and the prover sphere depresses the plunger as it passes. The plunger is fitted with magnets which actuate a fully encapsulated SPST reed assembly and accurately signals the sphere position within the prover.

The MICRO-SET MSD2 ball prover detector switch features a single mechanical moving part: a pressure balanced plunger/piston with no dynamic seals. The plunger is 100% bi-directional and fully nickel PTFE coated to prevent wear from abrasive particles and ensure optimum long life.

OPTICHECK DTM is a device type manager (DTM) for verification as well as commissioning of KROHNE measuring devices. It can be either used on site or from a control room. The tool provides advanced verification with full access to the powerful diagnostic functions of a field device. Operators benefit from extensive performance checks with precise status information on each device. The service life of measuring instruments can be increased while life-cycle costs can be reduced. OPTICHECK Master is a handheld for in-depth verification, commissioning and monitoring of KROHNE field devices. It provides the most extensive on-site device verification available on the market. Featuring the highest possible test depth, this essential service tool ensures that process measuring devices perform according to specification. In this way, operators can extend the time between costly re-calibrations of field devices.

Via direct connection to the sensor, electronics and signal outputs, extended tests can be performed without dismounting the measuring device. In only 10 minutes a detailed hard copy verification report can be generated (level 1 verification). Taking only slightly more time, level 2 verification offers the deepest field device verification possible without process interruption. This makes the OPTICHECK Master also the ideal service tool for proof test documentation of safety loops acc. to IEC 61508/61511. This may result in extended proof test intervals or simplifying the actual test procedure of safety loops. It also significantly contributes to improving overall safety levels and plant availability without removing the devices from the process and interrupting plant operation.

The OPTITEMP TT 33 R is a universal, programmable 2-wire rail-mounted temperature transmitter. The galvanically isolated transmitter works with RTD elements, thermocouple (TC) elements or other inputs (mV and Ω). Due to its rugged design, it withstands external influences such as shocks and vibrations (up to 10 g, as may occur in OEM/machinery applications). With a fast step response time of just 0.15 s and high accuracy (±0.08% of span) over transmitter lifetime, it is well suited for many industrial applications. Its low temperature drift (±0.01% of span) makes regular calibration less necessary. The temperature transmitter provides a temperature linear current output (4…20 mA). It is also approved for use in hazardous areas.

The OPTITEMP TT 33 R features various useful functions including runtime counter, tracking and backup of previous configuration, ambient temperature log, output simulation for loop testing as well as extended diagnostics complying with NAMUR NE 107. The rail-mounted transmitter supports wireless Near Field Communication (NFC) as well as Bluetooth® com munication. It can thus be remotely configured and monitored using mobile devices with the OPTICHECK Temperature Mobile app installed. Alternatively, the OPTITEMP TT 33 R can be easily configured from a PC using the ConSoft™ software with OPTITEMP TT-CON EX configuration kit. The OPTITEMP TCA-M70 is a mineral insulated (MI) cable thermocouple equipped with a compensation cable. It comes with an optional thermo plug or free insulated flying wires for installation where connection terminals already exist. The MI cable sensor is particularly suitable for applications where the ambient temperature exceeds the maximum allowable temperature of standard cable material (e.g. in test bench applications). The MI cable of the sensor can be easily formed to fit into limited spaces. Its small diameter makes it perfect to provide fast response times.

The OPTITEMP TCA-M70 is mechanically and thermally highly stable. It is available with thermocouple type J, K or N, single (standard) or double (optional), according to IEC 60584 class 1. The measuring point can be ordered as isolated (standard) or grounded (optional). The MI thermocouple sensor is best used for measuring high process temperatures of gases and liquids (up to +1250°C / +2282°F), at low to medium pressures and flow velocities.
